Lunar New Year (Chinatown S.F.)

Wednesday Cay and I took the train and busses into San Francisco to go to the Lunar New Year opening ceremony in Chinatown.  We'd missed the Flower Market, but plan to go to the street fair later this month.  This was a nice little event because it was fairly short, and not as crowded as other events.

It was kinda rough on Cay, because of the amount of firecrackers going off... the streets would fill with smoke after strings were lit, and the streets were littered with the tiny red and pink confetti that flew out of the little explosions.

here you can see the long string of firecrackers on the street, going up to a wire suspended between the buildings.  Sadly, I might have accidently erased the video (I'll keep looking)

There was food (whole roasted pork!) and of course there were red envelopes handed out, each containing a $2 gift certificate, a $1 bill, and a chocolate coin.

There were lion dancers, dragon dances, tai chi, a chorus, and other cultural dances and performances.
