|Holbrookia maculata approximans|
A Speckled Earless Lizard we saw at the dog park in Santa Fe earlier today.
They live in sandy areas with sparse vegetation, and range from Mexico into the southern US (Eastern AZ, throughout NM and western TX). They're a subspecies of the Lesser Earless Lizard, which has a range from South Dakota into Southern Mexico. These lizards are insectivores, and female earless lizards have an orange throat during breeding.
